Project Overview
3P Construct successfully delivered a series of education projects for Calderdale College, including the new Mill Studio at Dean Clough, the refurbishment of the Percy Whitley Centre, and the creation of a new single classroom within the same site. Together, these projects support the college’s ongoing commitment to expanding its digital, creative, and vocational training facilities across Halifax.
Project Details
The flagship scheme, Mill Studio, is a 7,000 sq ft facility within the 22-acre Dean Clough business and leisure destination. Commissioned through a £700,000 Government funding boost, the project expands the college’s creative digital skills hub and provides high-specification learning spaces for students aged 16 and over.
In addition to Mill Studio, 3P Construct delivered a second phase of works to form a new classroom at Dean Clough, ensuring the college could continue to grow its teaching provision. At the Percy Whitley Centre, further refurbishment works were completed to upgrade changing rooms and repurpose existing office space for student use.

Our Role
3P Construct was appointed as main contractor under a JCT Design & Build contract, overseeing multiple schemes across live college sites. Working closely with the client and design team, we provided a coordinated and value-engineered approach to achieve the college’s vision within strict time and budget parameters.
The Mill Studio works required complex planning and collaboration with Heritage England due to the listed nature of the building, as well as agile project management to meet the college’s September intake deadline.
Complete Fit-Out
Our scope of works included:
- Remediation to the historic mill structure and installation of additional passive fire protection, with sandblasting of exposed brickwork, beams, and columns
- Full mechanical and electrical design and installation, including fire alarms, ventilation, heating, cooling, and plumbing systems
- Construction and fit-out of classrooms, TV production and green screen studios, an esports gaming hub, kitchen, and welfare facilities
- Refurbishment of changing rooms and conversion of existing office space at Percy Whitley Centre
- Internal finishes, decoration, and joinery to meet the college’s design brief
Project Outcome
The completed schemes have created a vibrant and modern learning environment that enhances the student experience and supports the college’s focus on creative and digital industries. The Mill Studio now serves as a hub for film, TV, and gaming studies, while the Percy Whitley Centre upgrades have improved the quality and flexibility of facilities available to staff and students.
